Three Books That Changed My Life

October 30, 2020 by Paul Begich

Heyooo! I hope you’re having a fantastic week!

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a huge fan of… READING! Crazy right!?!? And to think you only thought all I did was real estate and workout… WRONG!

I remember growing up my dad would sit my sister and I down every Sunday and force us to read for two hours straight. I absolutely hated it! Like, dreaded it! Sunday’s became the worst day of the week – struggling through Goosebumps was just too much for the young Paul to bear.

Alas, here I am today and self-help/personal development reading is one of my absolute favorite past times. Here are my top three most favorite books of all-time! These books have no doubt significantly made an impact on my life – and if you choose to dive in, I hope they have as much of an impact on YOU!

Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink
This book absolutely CHANGED THE GAME for me! I read this book when I was probably 23 or 24 years old and I realized I was living in a victim’s mindset. The reason things weren’t working out, as I then thought, was because I was dealt a shitty hand and everything negatively going on in my life was some kind of excuse. But after reading Extreme Ownership I truly realized that EVERYTHING in life is my fault – in that, I have the ability to dictate the outcome of ANY situation. “Did I do everything I possibly could to positively impact my intended outcome?” – this is the question this book does a beautiful job instilling in it’s reader.

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
Rich Dad Poor Dad should be a REQUIRED piece of reading material for every highschooler. I can already see me talking to my future children – “You’re gonna read this when you’re five years old – on Sunday’s too!” But in all honesty, that’s how good this book is – it makes you TOTALLY revisit how you think about money and how you should be thinking about building wealth; by putting money back into income generating assets instead of liabilities. This book was one of the main precursors that got me into real estate in the first place.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
I’m a big believer that first we must believe, then we become. I can assure you that Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, and Tom Brady all KNEW they were the best athletes in their sport FAR BEFORE they were ACTUALLY the best in their sport. For whatever reason, that’s just how the human psyche works – we rise to the level and ability of our belief system. If you have an innate belief that you are poor – you better believe you will ALWAYS be poor. If you want to be rich, wealthy, and confident – you then first must believe it in your heart to be true. Think and Grow Rich does an excellent job highlighting this concept by looking into the lifelong work of Napoleon Hill and his interviews with top performers of the early twentieth century.

What are some of YOUR favorite books? I’m always looking to learn, grow and connect – so drop me a line and let me know some of your favorites and what you’re reading right now.

Have a great week!
