March Madness

March 29, 2017 by Meg Decker

The first day of spring has already passed; but the truth is, the spring real estate market is fully underway. Buyers who waited for the trees to leaf out and temperatures to warm up last year found their search for new homes to be more like a game of musical chairs. There’s a lot available in the urban Minneapolis apartment market, but inventory is still tight when it comes to properties for sale. A great deal of sales are taking place before properties ever hit the traditional market and the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). These “off market” properties are referred to as “pocket listings” among the real estate community.

Pocket listings have long been a part of our sales landscape at DRG – not because we want to keep properties hidden, but because we deal with many investors and have such deep relationships in the buildings and projects in Minneapolis. An owner or landlord will express interest in selling and we frequently have a pool of buyers looking for a unit like theirs.

This month has a lot of people obsessed with brackets and basketball, but we want to remind everyone to take a minute and consider a couple other things:

Do you like where you live?
Do you have a lease ending?
Do you know what your home is worth today?
Are you dreaming about more – or less – space?
Have your circumstances – like job or family – changed?

Kind of like spring cleaning, a quick check-in with our Buy/Sell, Leasing or Rentals Management teams can get you some great info and clarity of what options you may have this year. The urban Minneapolis market is already moving at a fast pace and it will only speed up the more temperatures warm up.
