SINGLEDOM IN THE CITY – HOLIDAY SINGLEDOM

Another year passes into the holiday season and I still find myself single amongst the mistletoe. I have learned growing up that the holiday season is the season of coupledom. Everything from television commercials to store ads seemingly revolves around two lovebirds falling in love once again. And I ask myself, what ever happened to singledom during the holiday season.

As a single lady in the city the holidays give me an opportunity to spend time with people I want to fall in love all over again with such as good friends and family. From holiday cocktail parties to cookie exchanges what couldn’t be a better time to be single and meander as my fabulous single self from one festivity to the next. I can come and go as I please and not worry about coordinating with two sides of the family on when and if we will be there this year.

During the holiday season I also pick up on certain things that usually go unnoticed any other time of the year. I like to call these things holiday traditions. Tradition plays a huge role during the holidays. Families have traditions. Couples have traditions. Married couples have traditions. And yet as my single self I decided to develop some of my very own holiday traditions. A few of my favorite holiday singledom traditions include baking my famous homemade festive frosted sugar cookies, picking out a Christmas tree for my place with my mom, decorating my place for the holiday season while jamming out to Christmas tunes and running around during the first snowfall in December taking fun snow pictures with one of my friends. And yes this does include making a few snow angels and building a snowman. However, my singledom traditions never include kissing someone under the mistletoe.

The mistletoe season will continue to thrive whether you are single or have that special someone I like to call Prince Charming. Couples will continue to walk hand in hand down the snow filled sidewalks and cozy up with a cup of hot chocolate together at a local coffee house. Married couples with families will continue to be seen through windows happily decorating their Christmas tree. And single ladies will continue embracing their own traditions with friends and family because when it comes down to it this season filled with cheer is truly amazing. It is hard not to notice the holiday season coming alive and filling hearts with love and joy.

So cherish these fabulous holiday single moments because you never know when you will get carried away by your very own Prince Charming. Until this time arrives, enjoy time spent with family and carrying out your very own singledom holiday traditions. I know I am looking forward to this holiday season.
