Fitness Expert: Look Good Before New Years

Look Good Before New Years
– -Winter cardio workouts to get you into ROCK’N shape BEFORE all the New Years resolutions–

So, we live in Minnesota which can make any cardio workout outdoors difficult or non-existent this time of year. You may be dreading that endless run on the treadmill or the boredom that can take over when you’re on any machine. What then?

Switch up your endless cardio workouts to interval training with moderate to high intensity. By training in intervals, you burn more calories, time seems to go by faster, and you see results quicker.

Here a just a few of the many cardio workouts you can do this winter:

1.Jump Rope — Jump for 30 seconds and rest for 30 seconds. If that seems too easy, increase your ‘jump’ time and decrease your rest time. Do this for 6 to 15 minutes. When you’re jumping, go hard for those 30 seconds. You’re only cheating yourself.

2. Sprint/jog/walk Speed intervals (on treadmill) — Most treaddmills have a ‘speed interval’ program option. You may choose your jog speed and run speed. Toggle between the two speeds by pressing the ‘speed interval’ button. Again, try out a 30/30 or leave a little more time to rest if you’re not in great cardio shape. Make it harder by running up hill on an incline of 3-6.

3.Step Mill — Oh, the dreaded step mill. But let me tell you, it will kick your butt in a matter of minutes —literally! Go for the Fat Burn Plus program or try the Speed Training program. Be ready to sweat and have your HR jump up fast. Try not to hold onto the bars at your side…you get a much better workout keeping your chest lifted and hands off the railing!
